What is Fizzy Fairy Apothecary?
Originally, i thought of giving a quick summary of what Fizzy Fairy Apothecary is, but after interviewing Alice, her words described them too well. I just couldn't summarize it. Here is the interview straight from her. :D
Q&A Interview with Alice Roy:
1. What is Fizzy Fairy Apothecary?
Fizzy Fairy Apothecary is a one-woman business that specializes in making geeky bath and home products- bath bombs, soaps, candles, and solid perfumes! My usual example to new customers of what I make is my Poke Ball bath bomb: it looks like a Poke Ball and has a Pokemon hidden inside.
2. What inspired you to get into creating these products (starting up the store)?
The short answer: I realized the world didn’t have any geeky inspired bath bombs that I could find, and decided that it was up to me to fix that.
The long answer: it started with a YouTube video! I’ve always been a creative person, and I watch a lot of DIY Youtube videos in my spare time. I was a full time online student at the time, but still felt like I needed more to do with myself. I came across a DIY bath bomb YouTube video and, since I was playing Pokemon White at the time, my mind immediately went to Pokeballs. I spent a few hours researching online to see if anyone else was making Pokeball bath bombs and, finding none (though someone in the UK does make some amazing Pokeball soaps), I began to make lists of other bath bombs that I could make that would fit into the video game/movie/anime category. It took me months to perfect a recipe that worked well in my environment (bath bombs are tricky beasts!) and I sent my bath bombs to friends to get their feedback as well. Once I was happy with my product, I officially started selling my bath bombs in October of 2013! I’m so grateful for the support of my husband, who has been happy to let me gradually take over our house for the business, and who helps me with shipping out orders. I just recently took over another full room just for packing orders!
3. I noticed there are a bunch of fandoms related to your products? Which is your favorite fandom?
I do try to have a wide range of fandoms, but I also only make things that I also love! I think it’s important to know your audience, know your product, and know the fandom that you’re pulling from, so every product in my shop is from a fandom that I know and love. My favorite fandom that I make products for is the Avengers one- I’m in love with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I really enjoyed making the bath bombs for the Avengers (and Loki, of course!).
4. What product would you recommend to new users? What is your favorite one?
My most popular product is the Poke Ball, of course! However, when someone is standing in front of me at a convention and asks what I recommend, I always ask what types of scents they prefer. I have a huge range of scents and I try to have something for anyone, so it depends on if you like fruity, sweet, floral, musky, or nature scents. I have a full list of scents on my Facebook page that you can look through to see what you might like (https://www.facebook.com/notes/fizzy-fairy-apothecary/all-available-scents-and-descriptions/1455980347955423). My very favorite bath bomb is my Ravenclaw inspired bath bomb: I’m an official Hufflepuff, but I’m partial to libraries and studying and I mixed the Ravenclaw scent to be relaxing and have notes that you might find in a library: woods and leather and a soft hint of floral.
5. What future plans do you have for your products? Do you have other plans to incorporate other fandoms with your products?
I think I’m out of room to incorporate more types of products (such as shower gel or hand soap) but I definitely have plans to incorporate other fandoms. I strive to have unique products, so I make some of my own soap molds (my rupee, hearthstone, companion cube, and Superman soaps are all molded from models made by myself and my husband). I’d love to have a Big Hero 6 bath bomb set, as well as something from the Fallout series, the Mass Effect series, and the Dragon Age series, but I’m simply running out of room!
