Both Art Lawd and Posh Queen are amazing artists that base a lot of their work off of classic anime and cartoons from the 90's past. I've always enjoyed their work and was given a chance to interview both of them. Here was how it went:
INTERVIEW WITH THE ARTLAWD AND POSH.QUEEN:
1. Where did you guys get your names, Art Lawd and Posh Queen)?
ArtLawd came from me switching from my last Artist alias "Starving Artist" - the name Starving Artist or Starv for short soon became a degrading name that I no longer wished to be known as - I woke up one day and decided I needed something with Power and a name I could live by - as I was thinking I had ASAP FERG playing in the background and he was entitling himself as the TRAPLORD - And it hit me ... Hmmmm "THE ARTLAWD" I liked the sound and the way it rolled off my tongue and decided that's who I was going to be - I never heard of an artist with the name and The ArtLawd was born.
My name Posh Queen comes from the word Posh - which means elegant, luxurious, and stylish which is the way I like to carry myself. I like to keep it classy and sophisticated.
2. What would you describe your art style as?
Our style derives from nostalgic TV shows from the 90s & early 2000s and even recent shows. We base it on happy times in our childhood and heavily inspired mainly by anime and cartoons. Also influenced by a lot of the gaming culture as well. Some call it PopArt - to me its Otakuism lol they have Cubism , Surrealism , Realism and all that shxt lol this to me is Otakuism new word since people make up new words everyday lol. And for our mash up art its just MashUp Art (couldn't get to creative with that one lol)
I would describe my style as pop art and anime fan art. I've been mainly painting my favorite anime characters from my childhood and bringing them to life with my favorite vibrant colors and my own twist.
3. What inspired you into this style of painting? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
We get lit and watch a lot of cartoons and anime and ideas come to us. That's how we come up with our many pieces.
Anytime I did draw when I was growing up I would always sketch up my favorite cartoon characters - I carried it with me as I grew older as a hobby. My boyfriend The ArtLawd got me to start painting this year and his style had a huge influence on mine - me and him love to use the same colors. My inspiration comes from the nostalgic feeling that watching these shows brings me - It makes me so happy to be able to bring these characters that i've grown up with to life on a canvas, being able to recreate them in my own style brings me much joy.
4. Which of your works is your favorite and why?
We really don't have a solo fave because many pieces touch our hearts after giving birth to them all. To give you a solid answer it would have to be our last piece because we try to out do ourselves with each new one. My personal new favorite is my DBZ x Lion King mash up. Due to the fact no one has ever done it.
My favorite piece up to date has to be my Sesshomaru piece - usually before I start a painting I typically already have a vision in mind on how I expect it to turn out, but with this piece I kind of just had fun with it and the result was better than I expected.
5. What are you favorite anime?
Favorite anime Naruto DBZ and samurai champloo
My favorite anime that's a hard one but i'm going to have to say Dragonball Z - My older brother got me hooked on it when I was younger and we would always watch it together.
